campaign to find a bone marrow donor
By Helen Bell (Nathan's Cousin)
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to find a bone marrow donor for Skegness football star Nathan Hancock, 22.
Nathan, who works with adults with learning difficulties at Linkage Community Trust, was diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma, a very rare form of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, in February after he found a swelling in his neck.
He was rushed into Nottingham’s City Hospital and treated with very aggressive chemotherapy to tackle the equally aggressive cancer.
After months of treatment under the fantastic supervision of hospital staff, Nathan was told the cancer had gone into remission in May.
He continued to have preventative chemotherapy until he was allowed home at the end of September.
But within weeks Nathan was in pain and extremely unwell. He was rushed back to hospital just over a week ago and his family was told the tumour in his chest has returned.
Now Nathan is fighting for his life and needs your help.
Right now he is enduring more intensive chemotherapy but he needs bone marrow urgently to rebuild his immune system so he has a chance of keeping the cancer away.
Nathan, a successful Skegness Town FC player since 2004, grew up in Alford. He attended Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Alford, and as a teenager hoped to make a career in football.
He played for Sheffield Wednesday’s Academy and Lincoln United, and was due to go for trials at Aston Villa, the team he supports, when a broken leg spelled the end of a professional career.
His job teaching sports for Linkage at its Toynton campus reflects Nathan’s love of sport.
